Forest Training Institute at Chail was set up in the year 1968 to impart intensive practical training in Forestry to the in service Forest Guards and Deputy Rangers. A new Forest Training Institute at Sundernagar was established during 1993 to speed up the in-service training of untrained Forest Guards and provide specialized trainings in forestry and allied spheres, to upgrade and enhance professional skills of forestry staff to be able to effectively carryout their multifarious functions.  With the introduction of Participatory Forestry management in the State, the mandate of both the Institutes have been enlarged to cater to the training needs of Communities also in Participatory Forest Management.  

Objectives:

1           To impart in-service regular forest training to Forest Guards and Dy.Rangers of Forest
             Department, Forest Guards and Dy. Rangers of State Forest Corporation and other
             States ( Punjab , Delhi etc.)

2                    To enhance the professional competence of forestry staff through periodic refresher/orientation courses to meet the challenges of higher responsibilities.

3.                 To organize specialized courses for the executive staff of HPFD to upgrade their skills and knowledge.

 

4.                 To train forestry project staff of other organisation in watershed and Participatory Management Approaches.

 

5.                 To provide need based training to forestry and other staff in Natural Resource Management.
